MMCAP creates and shares valuable savings through competitively bid and aggressively negotiated contracts that adhere to State of Minnesota procurement regulations. MMCAP leverages member volume aggregation to forge deep cost savings on pharmaceuticals and healthcare products for its members across the nation.
Use of MMCAP is free for our members and purchasing from our contracts is voluntary.
A portion of the vendor administrative fees collected by MMCAP fund our operations, and 100% of unused vendor fees are returned to member facilities as a wholesaler credit. The amount returned is based on contract purchases, and MMCAP returns a much higher percentage of administrative fees to its members compared to other GPOs.
MMCAP employs six regional Senior Healthcare Consultant (SHCs). This team of experienced healthcare and regional management professionals assists with contract usage and value optimization monitoring, preparing business reviews for each account, monitoring off-contract purchasing, and ensuring pricing attachment, as well as quickly resolving any account issues.
MMCAP Focus is a contract management tool that provides detailed reporting and graphics of vendor sales data. Each state purchasing contact has access. MMCAP will also provide custom reporting upon request.
MMCAP contracts are competitively bid following State of Minnesota stringent procurement guidelines. The resulting comprehensive healthcare contract portfolio is available for use by our member states for state agencies, as well as counties, cities, school districts and other political subdivisions.
The MMCAP Advisory Board consists of a chairperson, who is appointed by the managing director, and eight other board members, who are member-elected, all from states across the country. Four representatives are state procurement officials, and the remaining four representatives are pharmacists selected from the main practice areas participating in MMCAP. The Advisory Board is the voice of membership and provides recommendations to MMCAP on strategic direction of the program.
MMCAP procurements and contracts are managed by licensed pharmacists and experienced healthcare professionals that listen to, and understand, the needs of our members, allowing for comprehensive healthcare products and services offerings.
MMCAP supports and encourages professional staff development to ensure that our members have expert resources to rely on and that our internal functions remain forward-thinking and innovative.
The MMCAP Clinical Pharmacy staff provides consultative services and strategic contracting that results in price containment and member savings. Member councils in each key class of trade promote idea generation and sharing between members, foster best practices, and champion strategic contracting. Council actions have led to pharmaceutical cost containment and member savings.
Facilities establish an individualized formulary based on the MMCAP complete line of pharmaceuticals, which is determined by the needs of members.
MMCAP members network with pharmacists and procurement officials from other states at the annual MMCAP National Member Conference; on scheduled conference calls; and through email contact lists.
